Even the Bible doesn't say that the world is about to end..
by The Quiet One inhere are some scriptures that show that the world isn't about to end, even according to the bible!
i noticed most of these in my own reading, but this page brings them all together.
i don't believe in the coming system of things, though.. any comments welcome.. http://www.apocatastasis.net/prophecy/prophecy-system-of-things-.html.

As always, it appears I have given the wrong impression. I DON'T believe that the Bible is Gods word to man, and I don't enjoy reading it since I came to this conclusion.. I HAVE to study the Bible as I am trapped in 'the truth' in a jw family. The only way I can keep myself sane is to read scriptures and either notice contradictions between the Bible and various doctrines, in this case the world being about to end, or internal inconsistencies. I was trying to start a thread that might help some, that still believe, see that EVEN the Bible (which some will defend to the death, literally) doesn't seem completely clear in its 'end of the system of things' message. If doctrines as commonly held as the 'end of the world' have no scriptural basis, even believers in the Bible could be freed from a fear of an Armageddon/Jesus returns to kill everybody who doesn't pray to him scenario. I think I'll give up trying to start threads, mine seem to die pretty quickly, and I always give the wrong impression. Thanks to steve2 for replying..

Oxygen works for some people (in a canister, obviously) and ice packs are helpful for relieving them to an extent, or so I've heard..

http://jwfacts.com/watchtower/experiences/justasiam.php http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/fear-cult-mind-control.php I hope that these links might be a helpful starting point in realising WHY it is that you are struggling with these feelings. You are the only one that can free yourself from the guilt and the fear, but there are many here, myself included, that have been through a similar phase. I'm sure you'll receive plenty of help. I've got no idea how it must feel, though, to have a guilt trip laid upon you that your childs life depends on remaining in the organisation.. The only thing I can think of to say is: If you still believe that Jw's have 'the truth', researching their history will help a great deal, not only the failed prophecies but, as if that wasn't enough, many teachings that have changed so much that Russell (the founder of the Watchtower, who was meant to have been part of the line of the 'faithful slave class') himself would be disfellowshipped today for sure, he didn't even believe that a controlling organisation on the scale that we see today was necessary! If you come to realise that it is not 'the truth', or once you confirm beyond doubt that there is no reason to believe that God has anything to do with the organisation, you can be free of the control. After all, you don't fear burning in hell for all eternity, do you? You don't fear that Zeus/Allah or any other Gods are going to kill you or your child for not reading the Quran, or not doing whatever Zeus worshippers did. (Forgive me if you're converting to Islam, this is just an example.) And why not? Because you don't see any reason to believe in those things. Research as much as possible, jwfacts.com helped me a lot, and the fear will eventually lose its grip on you. Hope this helps.

Pams girl- Thanks, I might point him to the page in the back of the brochure that lists the sources the info's taken from, but it may be unnecessary. Sizemik- He said that he didn't believe in God, yes. Good suggestion, but I think that a direct offer of a Bible study might be best. New Chapter- The Was Life Created? brochure is a relatively new publication. I've just realised that I abbreviated the title of it and caused a lot of confusion. It's NOT the old creation book, that's outdated. Sorry everyone.. Broken Promises- Thank you. Your answer has inspired me by pointing out the obvious. He won't believe in the Bible, so a direct offer of the Bible teach book would really do the trick! You've eased my worries greatly.. Black Sheep- Thanks but no way would I do that on a regularly worked territory..

I could use some help, if anybody has time to reply.. If you had just placed a Creation brochure with an atheist and you were expected, by the person you were working with, to call back next week (someone said I should take the bible teach book), what would you say so that the call doesn't end up as a bible study? I can only just offer mags/tracts to people with a good conscience, because as I see it, anyone else would have gone to the door and done the same anyway. But I couldn't take someone through the bible teach book. Any serious suggestions welcome (no 'would you like to join a crazy cult' nonsense please, I'll have someone with me so it has to be believable). Thank you.

The JW's are the NEAREST thing to the Truth....EVER!
by punkofnice ini'm sick of this.
when you show a jw the fallacy of their organization (on the rare occasion they don't get the forcefield up in time), they'll retort with something as assinine as.
'yes....but jehovah's witnesses are the nearest thing to the 'truth' there is!'.

Maybe you could say, ''Would Jehovah let his people believe something that was incorrect, or not quite true? I thought that Satan is the Father of the lie, that he is the one that uses half-truths'' ..She should at least agree that all objective statements are either true or false, all ideas/beliefs/philosophies originate from Satan if they're false or from Jehovah if they're true. If the beliefs of jw's have changed back and forth, was Jehovah lying to his people? Were they being guided by him or not? The inspired Bible writers never said, '' Well, most of this is true, some isn't'', did they? 'All scripture is inspired of God'.. And if not everything that comes from the GB is inspired, or from Jehovah, and they claim that they speak for him (we should obey the direction in the watchtower as though it were from Jehovah), could they be lying?.. And so on. Easy for me to say, though.. Sorry about the rambling, feel free to ignore all of this.

A lot of time will have to be spent trying to cheer up the countless millions of resurrected people who've just been told they can't get married, and that fornicators aren't allowed to live in the Paradise, so don't even think about it. How could we encourage such ones? You could say something like ''Don't worry, there will be 'new scrolls' opened soon, maybe God's going to change his mind and allow polygamy again''...
